Zombie Walk for Veterans
Laredo and surrounding communities are building the biggest possible "donation" fort for human survivors of the Zombie Apocalypse!
Visitors to one of the oldest parts of Historic Laredo, Texas - St. Peter's neighborhood, will walk in as humans and contribute gently used clothes, furniture, boxes of food, or any donation possible to help build a "survivor fort" in St. Peter's Plaza to benefit Volunteers Serving the Need, the local Food Pantry for Veterans in financial need. Their donation will protect them for only a little while because they will receive a ticket to the nearby Bender Hotel. Starting at 4:00pm, teams of make-up artist volunteers will help convert donors into Zombies ready to roam downtown. Other teams of volunteers will help add to the zombie atmosphere with added clothing and instructions.
At 6:30pm, Zombies will begin pouring out of the Bender Hotel in seach of the history of Laredo and with an opportunity to participate in presentations by the Laredo Paranormal Research Society. The primary route for Zombies will take them through parts of historic residential downtown so that in their zombie walk, they learn more about the origins of Laredo, Texas. Those who choose to take the Laredo Paranormal Research Society's presentation, will learn about the scientific method of exploration of things that go bump in the night.
Zombies will then be encouraged to congregate at the Plaza for a night-time final presentation from the Laredo Paranormal Research Society at 8:00pm. Event will conclude with a nighttime showing of a movie while volunteers will help load donations and distribute information about Volunteers Serving the Need, the local veteran's food bank.
The beneficiaries will be the local veterans in need or their surviving spouses via the thrift store run by Volunteers Serving the Need. Also benefitting will be the St. Peter's Historic Neighborhood Association in their effort to educate the greater community about their local history and architecture. Lastly, the Laredo Paranormal Research Society will benefit in educating the public about their efforts to use a variety of sophisticated equipment to understand the world around them and the nighttime skies.
